Hi friends! I was searching through my closet the other day planning some outfits for my next big road trip when I decided, why not put some summer date outfit ideas together for y’all? Since the pandemic is still in full swing, but people still want to gather (safely!), I figured there’s no better time for some cute first date outfit inspiration.
I put together these 5 summer date outfits to inspire you to create something cute and easy with what you already have in your closet. I have some casual, some dressy, some day and some night date outfit ideas. I’ve linked everything I could find for exactly what I’m wearing below, but feel free to use these outfits as a general guideline for your dates!

Y2K Fashion Summer Date Outfit
As much as it absolutely horrifies me to no end, y2k fashion is a thing that’s apparently happening now. The fashion of the turn of the millennium was completely wild then and is completely wild now, but in my opinion, the confidence makes the fit, so if you feel bad in your butterfly clips girl, go for it!
For this outfit I threw together a super basic cropped tank (that is so soft and comes in a few colors!) with a baggier pair of jeans. These are actually high waisted jeans, but they’re way too big on me without a belt so they fall to my hips and therefore are now my y2k jeans. I don’t make the rules!
Anyway, wearing jeans so low you can see my belly button gives me hives, but that’s how they did it in the 2000s so that’s how we’re doing it now. I paired these with a low heel strappy sandal in an ice blue because what was y2k if not the year of ice blue?
Top: Lulus | Jeans: Topshop | Shoes: Marc Fisher
As a bonus treat, please enjoy an outfit I was actually wearing in the year 2000. You’re welcome!!!
Brunch Date Outfit
What’s more perfect for a socially distanced brunch date or picnic in the park than a big flowy maxi dress? I love this one because it’s the easiest summer date outfit in the books. Just throw it on and GO.
This dress comes in a ton of colors and is sold by a handful of retailers, but I have the one from Lulus (linked below). The straps are adjustable AND it has pockets!
I’m going braless here, but if you need a little more support, I love wearing this dress with a lacy bralette underneath. It’s so cute peeking out from the neckline and sleeves!
This dress is also pretty long and I’ve been meaning to get it hemmed forever, but I simply haven’t. So I’m not tripping over it, I paired it with a belt that has the added benefit of cinching in my waist, and some platform sandals. Altogether I feel like this look gives me big Megara from Hercules energy and since she has been my style/beauty/personality icon since I was but a tiny bebe, I am living for it.
Dress: Lulus (Also available at Vici in Tie Dye, at Red Dress in FLORAL & in solids at Nordstrom Rack) | Belt: Shop Priceless | Shoes: Madden Girl
Active Day Date Look
Honestly, probably the safest and smartest way to go on a date these days is to do something outdoors. While I’m typically into the type of workout that involves me walking around a mall and shopping, I do love a good hike every now and again.
Fortunately, we as a society have advanced athleisure to a place where it is both extremely cute and accessible. For this look, I went with the biker shorts trend.
Even though I have short legs, I still love to wear bike shorts because they’re comfortable and functional and you can’t tell me what to do! Are they the most flattering thing on my frame? Probably not. Do they keep me cool and comfortable while being active and still look cute enough? Definitely.
I paired these cross front bike shorts that I adore with a basic tee. I find leaving a tee to hang hits right at my hips and makes me look wider and shorter than I am, especially with bike shorts, so I prefer to knot a shirt into a crop to emphasize the length of my torso. I have a lacy bralette under this because I am lazy, but feel free to replace with the sports bra of your choice. Topped it all off with some formerly white sneakers and you’re good to go!
Tee: Aerie | Bralette: Shop Priceless | Biker Shorts: Aerie (unfortunately sold out, but similar) | Sneakers: Nike
Girly First Date Look
I love a super feminine, flirty date look in the summer and this one is perfect for that. It’s so easy to find a cute floral mini these days too that this look should be simple to recreate with anything you have in your closet!
For this look, I paired a floral mini skirt with a basic white chiffon cami. To add a little detail, I layered a lacy bralette underneath. I paired this with a cute pair of neutral heeled booties. You could totally stop here for a day date, or throw on a cardigan if you’re going out at night!
This is one of my absolute favorite summer date outfits for day OR night. I mention this every time I wear this look but something about the combo of the skirt and the cardigan gives me such major Miss Honey vibes and I love it so much!
Skirt: Abercrombie | Cami: Topshop (old, similar at Topshop, Loft Outlet and J Crew Factory — I have and love this one as well!) | Bralette: Shop Priceless | Cardigan: Target (similar at Aerie and Madewell) | Booties: Steve Madden (TONS more options on Amazon)
Summer Night Date Outfit
This one is my favorite, and the type of outfit I immediately start going for the second the temperature drops a little bit. I love nothing more than long sleeves with shorts, and this look is no exception.
I started off with one of my favorite cropped sweaters. This one is neutral and so so cozy, and has a slight turtleneck that I love. I paired it with distressed black denim shorts to edge it up a bit and keep it casual. To help keeping the cropped sweater tucked in, I added a western belt. I finished it all of with some western ankle boots as well.
Overall I feel like if I was living in the country in the summer and had a summer night date like, sitting in an empty field, drinking out of solo cups and listening to music with friends, this is probably what I’d wear to that.
Sweater: Vici | Shorts: Topshop | Belt: Forever 21 (similar) |Boots: Sam Edelman (also completely obsessed with them in Camel)
Thanks so much for checking out these 5 summer date looks! I hope they inspired you to come up with a cute outfit for your next day date or date night this summer!
